General Pants Starts Record Label

Australian youth retailer General Pants and Sydney entertainment agency Peer Group Media have joined forces to launch Major Label – a singles only record label wholly owned by General Pants Co. The label intends to support up and coming acts and claims that artists will maintain ownership of copyright, full creative control and receive 100% of the royalty income through the sales of music through digital retail stores.

The venture will see General Pants’ 700 strong staff collectively act as A&R, street team and publicity with three acts and singles chosen monthly for release on Major Lazer Label.

General Pants Brand Manager Jethro Lyons explained of the partnership: “Major Label is about discovering up and coming hot new Australian acts and throwing them a lifeline. The program engages our staff and customers and puts General Pants Co. on the dance floor of the Australian music scene, which is an exciting place to be right now.’

The initiative launches on March 1st 2010.
