Elton John Gives Pnau Permission To Raid His Back Catalogue

With friends like these…who needs other friends? Elton John has given his pals Pnau unfettered access to his entire back catalogue, setting into motion that seventeen minute dubstep remix of “Rocket Man” that nobody ever asked for. According to John’s official website, the duo have been working with his multitracks with the intention of releasing a remix album sometime this year.

The duo, Peter Mayes and Nick Littlemore, last worked with Elton on their most recent album Soft Universe and enjoy a kind of Liz Lemon/Jack Donaghy relationship with the singer, a tutelage which Mayes once told us “kind of saved us”.

“We just owe him so much, I mean, he kind of saved us,” he said. “He found us a couple of years ago in Australia and he basically helped us move to the UK and we’re managed by his management company. He’s been a real mentor to us and a good friend too, musically and otherwise. If we’re down he’ll help us. He’s just someone who’s there to help. If we write a great track he’ll tell us. If we write a bad track he’ll tell us. He’s very honest and very generous with his time.”

Awww. The project’s first single is called “Good Morning To the Night”, a reworking of Elton’s 1972 hit “Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters” and it sounds EXACTLY how you would think Elton John + Pnau would sound like. Blissed out euphoria that would suit sporting montages, Mardi Gras parades or festival DJ sets. Below, stream a radio rip of the track which debuted earlier this week on BBC Radio.
