Ed Sheeran Built A Secret Pub Under His House & The ‘GoT’ Cast Crashed It

Ed Sheeran is a man after our own heart: not only does he really love ale, but he loves it enough to build an ale-shrine in his own home.
Everyone’s favourite redhead – who’s currently Down Under to perform on Nova’s Red Room at the Opera House – stopped in for an unplanned chat with Rove & Sam replacements Ed Rusciano and Harley Breen, sharing a delightful story about the time the ‘Game Of Thrones’ cast crashed his London mansion to get pissed.
To be specific, crashed the pub Ed had custom-built in the basement of his bachelor pad, accessible only via a secret underground tunnel that’s separate to the rest of the house so “you get no one, raiding the cupboards or smashing anything” when he throws wild parties.

Ed told Em and Harley about the time he came home from a GoT wrap party – overwhelmed by all the people – only to have the cast turn up on his doorstep.
“I went to a Game Of Thrones wrap party… I thought it would be a cool thing to go. And I’ve started getting this recently – like massive anxiety in crowds. So I just kind of walked in and was like, ‘Oop, no, no don’t like this’ and left pretty much instantly.

“I got back to my house and it was like 2am and I was like, ‘I’m just going to go to bed’. So I was getting ready for bed and then I got a text being like, ‘We’re outside your house’. So yeah, they all came in… it was quite a fun night actually. Played some pool.”

Who was there, specifically?

Kit [Harington], who plays Jon Snow. Alfie AllenMaisie Williams… and Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa. I’d met them all individually but never as a group.”

Part of the reason Ed built his own watering hole – which was inspired by a visit he paid to the home Peter Jackson, which has “loads of secret passageways and underground tunnels” we imagine are just like The Shire – was to help ease his social anxiety; now the party comes to him.
“I don’t mind 20, 30 people in my house, but 20, 30 people I don’t know in a pub and I get like weird,” he said. “I was never like that before – I loved going out – but I just don’t like being in big crowds of people. It’s weird.”

Might have something to do with your stratospheric public profile, m8.
