Call them what you will: electroclash pioneers. performance artists. style icons. art wankers. glorified djs. your personal heroines… For better or for worse, there’s a helluva lot of people (predominantly girls and gay men, both in their 30s) who think German art/music collective Chicks On Speed are one of the best things to come out of the Nineites, and with their punk attitude, flamboyant music performances and penchant for outrageous DIY styling they definitely paved the way for contemporaries like Peaches, Le Tigre and Lady Gaga.
The collective are about to release a new book inspired by their fashion and the Chicks On Speed ethos in general called Chicks on Speed Don’t Art, Fashion, Music, a book is published globally on 2nd November, full of photographs, clothing, illustration, lyrics and other crafty home-ec type projects…
