Bloody Hell, ‘Shooting Stars’ Has Memed Its Way Onto The US Billboard Charts

Truly, this is wonderful.

You know how the Bag Raiders‘ iconic 2009 banger ‘Shooting Stars‘ somehow ended up being 2016’s surprising meme? It’s just hit the US Billboard charts. This is a thing that’s really happening.

The little plucky choon that could is right this very second sitting at #11 on Billboard’s Hot Dance / Electronic Songs, squished between ‘Scared To Be Lonely‘ by Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa (#10) and ‘Just Hold On‘ by Steve Aoki & Louis Tomlinson (#12).

Just look at these numbers. Last week? Nada. This week? NUMBER ELEVEN, BABY.

It’s also appearing on the Digital Song Sales (#7) and Streaming Songs (#13), so it’s nice to know a little bit of that meme action is turning into $$$ for the Sydney duo.

One half of Bag Raiders, Chris Stacey, spoke to PEDESTRIAN.TV when the memes first started going bonza a couple weeks ago (which they are as lovingly befuddled about as you are).

“We had seen a couple of videos I guess, but not a lot at first,” he said. “There were a couple of times people had made videos that we saw but it’s only really lately people started tagging us in things and we discovered it all. Past two weeks is when it’s been really massive.

At first we were like, ok this is funny I guess, but I didn’t really get it so I thought “alright whatever”. Once I started seeing a common theme though, such as the big guy jumping off the bridge into the river, that was the first one of the more recent stuff that really got me. So good! That and the Lady Gaga one is so funny.

Happy Friday, y’all.
