A few days ago, guitar pedal engineer and queer activist Devi Ever posted her frustration on the Netphoria message board about Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan‘s support of an allegedly homophobic fan blogger (“… but having a guy whose religions’ ENEMY #1 is queer folk be the basis of his connection to his fans …”), approach to new music (“He’s treading on sacred ground by remixing old material …”), and dismissal of pedals she created for him (“… and I’m pretty pissed he obviously didn’t even give any of my pedals a proper once over before dismissing them …”).
Proving that he reads his own fan sites, Corgan retaliated on Twitter, pointedly referring to Ever, a transwoman, by pronouns of both genders (“he/she”, “him/her” – not that far from the scumbag favourite, “it”, and, as Ever says in her retort, below: “As a transperson, it’s the equivalent of being called a nigger, or a fag. It’s a way of trying to tear away my humanity.”) He also claimed Ever stole the idea for one of her pedals from another pedal maker. The tweet has since been deleted, but lives on forever at Celebrity Tweet:
He then took it to Facebook, sending Ever aggressive messages:
“you ugly piece of shit…if i ever run into you, anywhere, at anytime, for as long as i live, i will knock your fucking lights out. don’t ever come near me, and if i hear even one more peep out of you in public about me, or the band, or the members of the band, i am gonna sue you for so much you’ll never be able to afford so much as to even make a fucking guitar cable. [sic]”
“you fucked up, you know it, so eat shit, shut the fuck up and accept you’ve attacked someone who tried to HELP YOU. but addicts and self-destructive people like you who HATE THEMSELVES must turn their hate out. if this is what you have to do to not kill your unhappy self, well then i’d say it was a wise decision. beyond that, you are fucking lame, dumb, and so so ugly. [sic]”
