Big Day Off: Lees & West Split After 30 Years

Vivian Lees and Ken West, the uber-promoters behind Australia’s longest-running festival Big Day Out have split after a creative partnership spanning three decades.

The Music Network reports it’s Lees who has pulled the plug, citing a need to spend more time with family and other interests outside the festival: “For the first time in my life I will be stepping off the gas a little instead of stepping on it and I am looking forward to new challenges I may find outside the Big Day Out.”

Insiders will note that next year’s Big Day Out also shares a headliner with Splendour In The Grass (Kanye) and so far the ticket sales have apparently been sluggish. West recently compared the bidding war for headliners to the HSC in an interview, stating “Every year I put everything I earn on the line, even at this level.” Perhaps Lees got out at the right time? Will you be going to Big Day Out this year? Let us know in the comments section.

Either way, it’s an end of an era for sure.
