AFL Grand Finals Will Feature The Temper Trap, Sanctioned Pitch Invasion

As hypothesised by clairvoyant Melbourne comedian Mick Molloy, The Temper Trap will provide the musical entertainment at this year’s AFL Grand Finals in Melbourne alongside Paul Kelly (the troubadour not the former Sydney Swans captain) and excitable You Am I frontman Tim Rogers. The trio will follow in the heavyset footsteps of Meatloaf, whose atonal pre-match performance last year was surprisingly close to trumping the launch of iSnack 2.0 as the single worst thing to ever happen at an AFL Grand Final.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou said that the league’s focus was now firmly on local artists.

“After selling millions of singles and albums and touring the world, I’m delighted The Temper Trap are coming home to play on the AFL’s biggest stage,” he said. “It’s only fitting we finish the season on a high and you can’t get a bigger Australian band right now than The Temper Trap, nor a more quintessentially Australian artist than Paul Kelly. Our fans have been telling us that they want more Australian music at the footy and we’ve acted on that by showcasing the best home grown talent all season.”

In related news, The Temper Trap will be also performing after the siren as part of The Premiership Party, “a free post-match fan event open to the public where the MCG will open its gates to the public”, giving punters the chance to simulate the experience of being in a Sports Tonight montage.

The 2012 AFL Grand Final will air on Channel Seven on September 29th.
