A Sydney Photographer is Accusing Katy Perry of Defamation

Someone is about to hear Katy Perry roar very loudly indeed – there are reports today that a Sydney paparazzi photographer has sent a letter accusing the singer of defaming him in the Twitter fallout from last weekend’s widely-reported stoush.

You may recall that, on Saturday, Perry went on a furious Twitter rant against Sydney paparazzi photographers, who she says pursued her during a walk to the beach, and pressured her to give them bikini shots before they’d leave her alone.
“I was stalked by many grown men today as I tried to take a quiet walk to the beach,” she said at the time. “These men would not stop as I pleaded over & over to let me have my space.”
It seems that, following that incident, Perry and her entourage were aboard a chartered yacht when security guards spotted more photographers approaching in another boat, attempting to snap images of her.

In the wake of Perry’s angry Tweets, the Sydney Morning Herald report that high profile Sydney paparazzo Jamie Fawcett issued a letter earlier today, demanding she remove posts that he claims are defamatory.
Perry posted images of several of the photographers who followed her around a Vaucluse beach, although Fawcett apparently was not among these. He has taken issue with a later Tweet, in which she names him, and asked for it to be taken down.
He claims the Tweet contains an “implied threat” against him. Her management have not yet responded.
Perry has one more Sydney show left on her current Australian tour, and is about to head to Brisbane for five more. She will also squeeze an appearance at the ARIAs in there somewhere.
We hope one day, she can find it in herself to return to Australia, when the fuckery of this current visit is long behind her.
