Court Docs Show Kesha And Lady Gaga Trashing Katy Perry In Text Messages

Freshly-unsealed court documents from Dr. Luke‘s lawsuit against Kesha have revealed a series of text messages between the singer and Lady Gaga, in which the pair complain about the “mean” Katy Perry, who refused to speak out against her former producer.

Back in 2014, Dr. Luke initiated defamation proceedings against his former protege Kesha, over her claims that he drugged and sexually assaulted her. He continues to deny that this happened, and has never faced any criminal charges in relation to the alleged sexual assault.

In a subsequent court filing, Dr. Luke’s team said that Kesha had smeared him in the aforementioned text message exchange with Lady Gaga, when she stated that he had also raped Katy Perry, a claim that Perry herself denied in a sworn deposition.

The contents of the text messages, from February of 2016, have been revealed this week. In the texts, Kesha said that she was “really upset” with Perry, adding “she could bring this whole thing to head, but she won’t. She was raped by the same man.”

When asked if she had talked to Perry, Kesha responded: “I need to find sympathy and empathy for her. [She’s] so mean. [It’s] hard.”

Later in the same text message exchange, Lady Gaga also called Perry “mean”, saying: “She makes me angry about shit [but] I just try to have empathy for her.”

Earlier this year, details of a June 2017 deposition were revealed, in which Katy Perry denied the claims she was sexually assaulted by Dr. Luke.

In her deposition, Perry said she felt “pressured” to support Kesha but that “I also knew both of them and a lot of people did not. So it was easy for them to be [detached] and support an idea rather than an actual instance.”

She also said that she felt “pissed off” after viewing the text message exchange between Kesha and Lady Gaga, and “annoyed” that she had been placed in the middle of legal proceedings and that Luke was using her as a “pawn”, adding:

“I want to stay out of it because I know them both and I empathise with both of them and obviously it’s a horrible situation for both of them. And the only two people that know what really went on are those two people.”

Perry went on to say that, while Dr. Luke never sexually assaulted her, she did not want to work with him on her 2017 album Witness because “working with him at this moment … would not be received well.”

Lady Gaga took to Twitter earlier today to say that the texts are “old” and that she and Perry have “matured” and gotten over the past, and now “love each other and share a deep respect.”
