It was only three short days ago that we decried the rise and rise of unnecessarily colourful foodstuffs.
IT.
WON’T.
STOP.
It just won’t. It will not stop.
And there’s a scientific reason why.
This extensive study confirmed that people definitely do associate certain colours with certain tastes. For example, a lot of us imagine pink and red foods to be sweet, and green and yellow ones to be sour. Effectively, unicorn-vomit coloured bagels are perceived by our brains as packing more flavour than their basic bitch beige cousins.
The science doesn’t stop there. A 2014 scientific review found that coloured food can stave off boredom while eating, which could explain why these rainbow edibles are so fancy to look at.
There you have it. Bye.
