Forget The ‘Reverse Kanga’: The ‘Reverse Strawberry’ Is Coming Down Under

Here in Australia, we’ve got our own very special way of going about things.

Our laws against same-sex marriage are undeniably backwards, our caps are often worn the opposite way that designers intended, and some of us have a penchant for using the toilet in a fashion proudly known as the Reverse Kanga
So, it should come as no surprise that we now have a fruit that embodies these strange cultural idiosyncrasies.
Introducing… The pineberry, otherwise known as the ‘reverse strawberry’ due to its inverted colour scheme.
White in complexion, with red seeds adorning its juicy figure, the pineberry is (in short) the Silas of the berry world.
Australian importer Phillip Neilsen told the ABC it’s the first time the breed has been brought Down Under. Despite their seemingly unnatural appearance, the berries have been cultivated naturally in Europe for several years.
And the taste, you ask? “They are still a strawberry, [but] you have a very subtle taste at the beginning of citrus or pineapple, and it finishes off with the classic strawberry flavour,” he says.
Wen the fruity tang got me like.
Keep your eyes peeled for the freaky-ass fruit coming to a supermarket near you, folks. We hear Nikki Webster‘s itching for a nibble.
