If you want to feel as queen as Oprah without spending a truckload / leaving the house, there *are* ways.
Starting with your pantry; your kitchen is the perfect place to whip up a beauty treatment with food stuffs.
Thinking to yourself, ‘Say whuttttttt?!’ We’ve enlisted Aussie babe and beauty enthusiast Kendal Schuler to show you how, right down to a DIY recipe she swears by.
PEZ: Can you talk us through your daily skincare routine?

Kendal: Every morning and night I make sure to use a simple no fragrance product for my sensitive skin on my face and neck. Because their products are so mild, if I have any makeup left over, I use coconut oil or makeup remover to wipe any excess makeup. It also acts as a moisturiser.
How would you describe your approach to beauty and skincare?

I have quite sensitive skin so I try to stay away from anything too harsh; I like to keep it really simple and natural.
Your best beauty tip… AND GO.

I am obsessed with coconut oil. My best friend Avril who models and studies naturopathy part-time got me into it. Coconut oil, coconut oil – and more coconut oil. It’s the best for EVERYTHING! I use it as a makeup remover, in my hair and all over my body. It’s also a great anti-bacterial, which most people don’t know.

How can you treat yo’ self without leaving the house?

I’ll make a face mask, paint my nails, make a hair mask out of coconut oil. I also drink hot lemon with honey every morning, and that makes me feel good. And, I love moisturising – actually Avril (my best friend) and I make an organic moisturiser with coconut oil, shea butter, rose hip oil, arnica oil, cinnamon extract and lavender. It’s delicious.

How did you get into DIY beauty?

Well, like I said, Avril is very into everything organic so she has been a massive influence for me. We spend a lot of time together doing fun little arts and crafts projects and just started infusing natural oils together and making a moisturiser. One day we hope to have our very own line of skin care products so keep an eye out for that in the future :-).
Can you spill a DIY beauty treatment for summer-flawless skin?

  • 1 x banana – “the vitamins in bananas are known to improve complexion and even smooth wrinkles”
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar – “acts as an exfoliant for brighter, glowing skin”
  • 1 tbsp of coconut oil – “soothes the skin and is great for hydration”
  • 1 tbsp of crushed ginger – “helps to repair damaged skin caused by age and UV”
  • 1/2 lime – “you don’t need too much of this but it’s great for cleaning out your pores and acting as a toner”
  • 1 packet of loose green tea leaves – “awesome for reducing redness and reducing the appearance of blackheads”

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and apply to a clean, dry face.
Leave on for 10-15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
What do you eat for healthy, happy skin?
I try to eat as healthy as possible – that means lots of salads and smoothies. I drink A LOT of water and to tie me over between meals I also like to snack on nuts and berries. Wellness and beauty to me means eating right, working out, spending time with family and friends and making sure I’m doing things that make me happy.
Are there any quotes you live by?

‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.’ Also ‘Save save save save save save, don’t be silly…Always have a plan, always have a goal’.
