The Internet Is Going Wild Over This Socialist Edition Of Monopoly That Nobody Asked For

Monopoly is a wonderful game that tears families apart and ruins relationships. But the latest edition of the beloved game that my family blatantly refuses to play with me anymore takes it to a whole new level.

Socialist. Monopoly.

The game, that’s entire premise is based on the concept of capitalism, has seen hundreds of special editions in its 100+ years on the market. From The Simpsons to this weird Bass Fishing Monopoly that’s perfect for your uncle that spends too much time talking about his boat, there’s a monopoly for every need.

But the internet doesn’t seem to think there was ever a need, or a want for socialist monopoly, according to 10 Daily. The obvious joke features a witty description that takes the piss out of socialism, which is unsurprising considering the tagline is “winning is for capitalists!”

“In the Monopoly Socialism game players move around the board working together to make a better community by managing and contributing to projects such as a no-tip vegan restaurant, an all-winners school, or a museum of co-creation. But nobody said that cooperation is easy!” the game’s description reads. “You’ll have issues with your neighbors, your DIY community projects go awry, you’re constantly voting to shake things up, and there’s always an emergency that requires dipping into the Community Fund!”

But not everyone saw the humour in the game. Twitter user and historian Nick Kapur attacked the game in a series of tweets posted yesterday. This guy sounds like he’d be super fun at games night.

Some people saw the humour in the clearly satirical game.

But obviously it wouldn’t be the internet if someone wasn’t wildly offended by a fucking board game, right?

It seems like this is some sort of weird joke that one of the board game executives at Hasbro thought would be a total hoot. But in true internet fashion, Twitter absolutely ripped it to shreds, regardless of what side of the argument they’re on.
