Combining satisfying puzzles, horrifying jump-scares and tricky resource management, Resident Evil 2 is one of the most important survival horror games ever made.

Steamforged Games – the folks behind the Dark Souls board game – have just launched a Kickstarter for a tabletop adaptation of RE2 and amazingly, reached their funding goal in just one bloody hour.

A ‘Resident Evil 2’ Board Game Blitzed Its Kickstarter Goal In One Hour“Funded within an hour and broke Kickstarter in the process! Pretty incredible,” the latest page update reads.

For 1 – 4 players, the aim of the game is to work together to escape the hellhole that is Raccoon City. Each player chooses a character from the series and navigates the streets and buildings of the familiar setting. Like the video game, you’ll have to use the little resources you have sparingly in order to survive.

At the time of writing, the Kickstarter has absolutely blitzed their goal of £150,000 ($254,550), currently sitting at a tidy £252,442 ($428,394) from 3,535 backers. The campaign still has 27 days to go, so that number is likely to grow significantly. The more money they raise, the more they can add to the game, like additional enemy models and item cards.

If board games aren’t your jam, you’ll be pleased to know an RE2 remake is in the works by Capcom and is expected to be released next year. Apart from a much needed graphical overhaul, the game will handle more like Resident Evil 4, ditching those incredibly annoying static camera angles.

Right now, the only pack available is for £70 ($118.80) or more, which includes the board game, the B-Files Expansion Set, an exclusive Kickstarter version of Leon, and all unlocked stretch goals.
