Leaked footage of what appears to be a new open-world Harry Potter RPG has appeared online, stoking up fans of the series and basically everyone with even a passing interest in top-tier fantasy videogames.
The one minute and twelve second-long clip shows character customisation, a bucketload of spells, and third-person action as the player explores Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest, and battles goblins and other wizards.
Press Start reports the footage first appeared on YouTube, before it was struck down by a copyright claim from Warner Bros. Entertainment – the folks who hold the rights to the Harry Potter universe. A mirror has been provided HERE.
That fact, combined with the slick nature of the footage, lends it a great deal of authenticity.
As for its provenance, a Reddit user claims to have been part of a focus group for the game where they were shown the video. In comments slapped around the place, they claim the game also has playable Quidditch, potion-making, and other goodies not included in the video.
Press Start also pointed to a NeoGaf forum post from 2017, in which users discussed job ads for developer Avalanche Software – now a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment – who were seeking a senior writer who could “provide British authenticity to the tone of the [undisclosed] project.”
It’s all fascinating stuff, and as the Reddit user claims, they “fully expect this game to be like Harry Potter and Skyrim had a baby.” Watch this space.
