Here’s Your First Magical Glimpse Of The New ‘Harry Potter’ AR Game

Harry Potter Wizards Unite

The magical folk over at Niantic have released the first glimpse of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite – a brand new augmented-reality game that will undoubtedly get a Potterhead to step into the muggle world.

This new baby comes from Niantic – the geniuses behind Pokémon GO – in partnership with Warner Bros., and Portkey Games.

(This is 100 per cent not to be confused with the leaked footage from what appears to be a very intense looking Harry Potter RPG game. )

So, the gist is that The Ministry of Magic is looking for witches and wizards to join the Statute of Secrecy Task Force – a brand new force set up to save the Wizarding World from absolute Calamity.

Please resist the urge to panic. Traces of magic are appearing across the Muggle world without warning and in a rather chaotic manner. We worry it is only a matter of time before even the most incurious Muggles catch wind of it. We call on all witches and wizards to help contain the Calamity or risk the worst of times since You Know Who. Brush up on your spells, get your wand ready, and enlist immediately.

Much alike Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to explore the real world in real time and you’ll also be able to cast spells and come face to face with a bunch of magical bits and bobs.

Catch the teaser below.

I mean, if there’s a golden snitch on the loose then I reckon we’re all in for some fantastic beasts.

Considering Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery did well – over 10 million downloads just on Android – and Pokémon GO absolutely blew up, who knows just how big this game might get. There are a lot of Potterheads out there.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is slated for release in 2019.

Unsurprisingly, even the registration page is a big kick in the nostalgic gut.

In short, ACCIO 2019.
