English Gamers Are Going Wild With Memes About ‘Pokémon Sword & Shield’

Pokémon fans are going hog wild for its two upcoming games, Sword and Sheild, both of which are due out later this year. As you’d expect from such a large, fanatic group of gamers, the memes have been flowing since the announcement earlier today.

Taking place in the brand new Galar region, Sword and Shield are set to be the prettiest looking games in the series so far, opting for cell shaded graphics similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. By the sounds of it, all the standard Pokémon fare is there: big gym battles, varied cities and locations, classic RPG elements, etc.

There are three brand new starter Pokémon in the title, as well, and folks are absolutely frothing on them. There’s the chimp-like bloke, Grookey, a fiery rabbit, Scorbunny, and a socially awkward water type, Sobble. The internet loves all of them for all kinds of reasons, but they would die for Sobble especially.

You can see more about the actual starter Pokémon in the trailer below if you’re keen.

But the best memes are the ones which revolve around the idea that Sword and Sheild are based in or inspired by England and Scotland. This mostly comes down to the quaint cottages and industrial-era brick buildings featured in the trailer, but there are a few other little details being referenced as well. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, everyone’s going nuts with memes and nicknames, one of which is Pokémon Greggs and Pokémon Nandos.

Others are just having fun with it in general.

Classic gear. There’s no release date for Sword and Sheild just yet, but it’ll be out at some point later this year, so we’ll probably hear more about it when E3 rolls around in June.
