Turns Out Andrew Lincoln Isn’t Leaving The World Of ‘Walking Dead’ After All

Those of you out there who are still watching The Walking Dead for reasons unknown were treated on Sunday to – spoiler alert – the mortal wounding of main character Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln. After all the press swirling around Lincoln’s departure from the show, you’d be forgiven for thinking the guy was dead forever. Apparently not!

According to Variety, Rick Grimes is very much staying in the Walking Dead universe, making much of the recent press for the show akin to a big bloody gee-up. He probably won’t be on the show itself, but instead in a series of feature-length TV movies under the AMC Studios Original Films banner.

Confused? You probably should be! Here’s the official announcement from AMC’s chief content officer Scott Gimple:

We have a lot on the horizon – starting with a new epic featuring one of the greatest leading actors in television history and one of the best people I’ve ever met. These films are going to be big evolutions of what we’ve been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features. We’re starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of ‘The Walking Dead’ and faces from the show’s past, as well as new characters we hope to become favourites, told by TWD veterans and emerging voices. We want to break new ground with different, distinct stories, all part of the same world that’s captured our imagination for nearly a decade of the Dead.

So the vibe is that despite his severe injuries in Sunday’s episode of Walking Dead, Rick is actually sticking around and his story will be continued in a handful of movies. Righto then!
