Andrew Lincoln’s Confirmed He’s Leaving ‘The Walking Dead’ So RIP Rick Grimes

In news that’ll probably bring a tear to every The Walking Dead fan’s eye, Andrew Lincoln (aka THE Rick Grimes) has officially confirmed he will be leaving the zombie-filled show at the end of this season.

Andrew’s played Deputy Sheriff Rick, of the neck-biting-defence-move, for 10 bloody (literally) years. That’s like 50 in TV land. So now he’s moving on.

“There seems to be an elephant in the room and I think many of you want to ask a question whether or not it is my last year,” Lincoln said at San Diego Comic-Con this week, reports The Sun.

“This will be my last season playing the part of Rick Grimes. I love this show, it means everything to me. I love the people who make this show. I’m also particularly fond of the people who watch the show. It has been the most extraordinary, beautiful experience of my career, largely because of you guys.”

He said the move comes as he decides to spend more time with his family.

“It’s been so much a part of my life, I breathed it for 10 years,” he said.

Obviously this move leads to questions about the show’s longevity from here on out. Although as a long-time fan myself, I think I speak for a LOT of us when I say JUST END IT FFS.

But there’s no sign of the show finishing up. Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, is rumoured to have signed a $27 million dollar contract to stay on. I guess if Daryl’s still around things will be good?

The ninth series is due to air on 7 October, so I for one will be tuning in to see how Rick fucks off.
