Cop Mahershala Ali’s Old Man Transformation In This ‘True Detective’ Trailer

Another trailer for True Detective season 3, another peek at the central mystery haunting the sullen world of Detective Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali).

In the new clip, HBO teases audiences with different viewpoints from the season’s three time periods. Yes, Ali dons the old bloke make-up for the series. Yes, the trailer alone is enough to say the Academy Award-winner can pull it off.

Besides bouncing between decades, it also provides the best look yet at Carmen Ejogo‘s enigmatic character, a school teacher whose past will likely come to influence the investigation into the disappearance of two kids in the Ozarks. 

It’s all very moody and mysterious, as you’d reasonably expect the Nic Pizzolato project to be. True Detective returns to HBO early next year, and will hit Foxtel’s showcase channel right around the same time. Have a gander:
