Ryan Coogler Will Take You Back To Wakanda As Director Of ‘Black Panther’ 2

Black Panther did numbers. It dominated the box office, turned its stars into household names, and showed a new way forward for Hollywood blockbusters. It also catapulted Ryan Coogler into the directorial stratosphere.

Good gear.

Now, the dude is reportedly slated to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to further the story of Wakanda for Black Panther 2.

Citing sources with knowledge of the deal, The Hollywood Reporter states Marvel is working to keep the talented core of the original Black Panther for future instalments.

Considering the fact the original film notched $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office, and has been bandied about as a serious Academy Award competitor, it makes sense the powers that be would be eager to retain his services.

It may be some time before a second Black Panther flick hits screens, though.

Despite reportedly inking the deal some time ago, Coogler remains attached to develop drama Wrong Answer, which will star his longtime collaborator and Black Panther villain Michael B. Jordan; there’s also the small issue of Coogler’s production oversight on the Space Jam sequel, and rumours have circulated he may even direct a smaller drama before then.

All of that means it is unlikely Black Panther 2 will begin production until late next year, at the earliest.

Considering the world-changing events shown at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, that will be a mighty long wait for Chadwick Boseman devotees, but the Coogler news seems likely please fans nonetheless.
