Netflix Is Working On A ‘Resident Evil’ Series So Prepare To Be Terrified

Resident Evil, Netflix

Just yesterday, the lovingly-updated remake of Resident Evil 2 arrived for current-gen consoles, to scare the living shit out of us all over again. Now, there are reports that Netflix is working on a TV series based on the classic survival horror franchise.

Per reports in Deadline, the streaming service is currently in the early stages of development, and is seeking someone to write a script that will “explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.”

Milla Jovivich starred in six Resident Evil films between 2002 and 2016, each one of them a schlocky masterpiece that I will defend until my dying breath. Critics loathed them, but they grossed $1.2 billion worldwide, so clearly there is a very real thirst for zombie survival.

Constantin Film, the German production company behind the films, is also involved in the TV series, so hopefully we’ll be getting more of that same campy, blood and gore-splattered vibe. While little else is known at this stage, Deadline claims that:

“The series will keep the same basic premise [and] is expected to incorporate all of Resident Evil’s signature elements, including action sequences and Easter eggs.”

Last year, there was word that the film series was to be rebooted, with James Wan of Saw and Aquaman to produce, although he apparently left in December, and there’s no word as to whether this reboot will happen as well as the Netflix series or whether it’s now abandoned.
