SPEWING: Nicole Kidman Reckons There Won’t Be A 3rd Season Of ‘Big Little Lies’

We’re all waiting with bated breath for the highly anticipated second season of Big Little Lies and when it finally does drop, we’ll be wise to savour every goddamn minute ‘coz according to Nicole Kidman, there very well might not be a third season.

Australia’s crowning jewel currently graces the cover of Variety where she discusses the likelihood of a third season and although she’s keen, the chances aren’t very good.

“I think it would be hard to get the whole group together,” she admits, adding: “But we would love to do it.”

The series was originally intended to be an HBO limited series and following the first finale, it seemed unlikely that the star-studded cast, including Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, Zoë Kravitz, and Alexander Skarsgård, would all agree to reprise their roles.

But although the stars literally aligned once again, it seems unlikely that this will happen a third time, Kidman maintains.

In season two, Meryl Streep stars as Nicole Kidman’s character’s mother-in-law.

Kidman reveals that Streep e-mailed her and Witherspoon after the show won its Golden Globe for best-limited series, insisting that she be involved in the next season.

“She goes, ‘I suppose now I have to join you,’” Kidman said. “And we were like, ‘What?’ The two of us were just shocked.” Streep, she said, signed on for season 2 without even reading a script. “That’s how much she wanted to support us.”

She also reveals that she was “terrified” working with Meryl and, I mean, you would be.

“You’re acting opposite the great one,” Kidman said. “I get nervous anyway—but to be opposite her and not want her to think, ‘Who is this amateur?’ And also, we want to deliver a series for her that she’s great in.”
