Nicole Kidman has quite rightfully won an Emmy award for her turn in Big Little Lies, and she used her acceptance speech to highlight the horrific prevalence of domestic violence.
Kidman, who won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for the HBO drama, said Big Little Lies “shone a light on domestic abuse.
“It is a complicated, insidious disease. It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know.”

Kidman portrayed abuse survivor Celeste Wright on Big Little Lies. It’s been praised for opening a public discourse about domestic violence, and raising awareness of the toxic issue.
Thank you, Nicole Kidman, for shining a light on domestic abuse & condemning the shame and stigma that surrounds it for survivors. #Emmys

Kidman topped co-star Reese Witherspoon for the award, as well as Carrie Coon (Fargo), Felicity Huffman (American Crime), Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange (Feud). That being said, she still manages to shout out Witherspoon, declaring “without you I would not be standing here.”
This is Kidman’s first Primetime Emmy, and since her return to TV has been so powerful this time around, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more in the future.
