Though it was already one of the more stacked and flat-out good looking franchises in film history, the Fast & Furious saga somehow found a way to get even hotter thanks to the upcoming spinoff Hobbs & Shaw and the addition of professionally alluring man Idris Elba.
Elba is reportedly in “final negotiations” to join the cast of the spinoff flick starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which is due to hit cinemas mid-next year.
According to reports, Elba will be playing the role of the villain in the film, which will see Johnson’s character of special agent Luke Hobbs and Statham’s career crim Deckhard Shaw teaming up.
Bosses at Universal have long been searching for a way to spin off the character played by The Rock ever since he arrived to virtually revive the flailing franchise in Fast Five. Following Statham’s arrival in 2017, the studio moved ahead with the Hobbs & Shaw idea.
Franchise mastermind Chris Morgan will again pen the script for the film, which is set to be directed by Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch.
The Great One has already extolled the virtues of Elba’s signing on Twitter in a string of posts confirming the former Stringer Bell is coming to the party.
He’s a baaaaaad man.
Welcoming my dude @idriselba with tattooed and open arms to our #HobbsAndShaw Fast & Furious spin-off movie.
Every hero is only as good as their villain. Cue the music… let’s dance. https://t.co/GD7dVrtNRl— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) July 5, 2018
