In exciting Disney Princess news, the ginormous company has bought the pitch for Sadé, a fairy tale film about an African Princess.

Deadline copped the exclusive and report the film will be a live-action flick just like Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming The Lion King and Mulan remakes.

Sadé is based on the pitch from screenwriters Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer and whisks us off into the life of a young African girl named Sadé who, after learning she has magical warrior powers, uses them to protect her kingdom from a mysterious evil force threatening to undo the life she’s always known. Sadé is joined in this adventure by the kingdom’s prince and together they set off to save the kingdom.

Not going to lie, this all sounds incredibly badass.

Shokunbi and Palmer worked on the 2017 short film, Break – a finalist at the Miami Beach Film Festival 2017.

Rick Famuyiwa is already locked in to produce the film. You might know him as the director behind 2015 movie, Dope, starring ASAP Rocky and Zoë Kravitz.

Sadé shall join Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog and Black Panther’s Princess Shuri as leading characters with African heritage in the expansive Disney universe.

It’s very early days – a director hasn’t even been named yet  – but exciting news nonetheless.

As for the rest of the Disney live-action films hitting our cinemas in the near future, we’ve got Mary Poppins Returns which will open Christmas Day, 2018.

Mary Poppins Returns does exactly what the title says and stars the magnificent Emily Blunt as the magical nanny.

BUT, in the meantime the emotionally nostalgic Christopher Robin is right around the corner. This tale reunites an adult Christopher with all our favourites including Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Kanga, Roo, and Rabbit who help him rediscover the joys of life.

This kick-in-the-childhood-gut will hit Australian cinemas September 13, 2018.

I mean… you can try not tear up…
