Euphoria, an American adaptation of the Israeli show of the same name, follows a group of high school students as they try and figure out love and friendship in a world of sex, drugs, trauma, and social media.

The series also stars GirlsMaude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith, and Sydney Sweeney.

In a statement shared on social media, Zendaya reminded her fans that the series is for a “mature audience.” Even before the show premiered, Euphoria was already making headlines out of either concern or intrigue or both. In fact, the latest headlines are about the show’s explicit sex and nudity – apparently one episode will show about 30 penises onscreen.

HBO chairman Richard Plepler recently told The Hollywood Reporter that Euphoria will make Netflix‘s 13 Reasons Why look like an after-school special.

“There are going to be parents who are going to be totally fucking freaked out,” Euphoria creator Sam Levinson added.

“Just a reminder before tonight’s premiere, that Euphoria is for mature audiences,” Zendaya wrote on Instagram.

“It’s a raw and honest portrait of addiction, anxiety and the difficulties of navigating life today.

“There are scenes that are graphic, hard to watch and can be triggering.

“Please only watch if you feel you can handle it. Do what’s best for you. I will still love you and feel your support.

Episode one has already premiered over in the US and based off tweets, Euphoria isn’t for everyone. However, a bunch of viewers have praised Zendaya’s performance and the show for being so real and unflinching.
