The hugely popular video streaming platform announced the news on Twitter, revealing that the updates will occur late next month.
They tweeted:
“It should be easy to know when you’ve found the official YouTube channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure. So in late October, we’re updating what it means for channels to be “Verified” w/ new eligibility criteria & a new look.”

As panicked tweets began to flood in, with verified YouTubers worried that their tick would be removed, the company clarified the updated process with an additional tweet.
“Additional clarification: No one lost a verification badge today–If you received an email that your channel will no longer be verified, this was just an advanced notice & you can appeal,” they wrote.
“The checkmark has never appeared on YouTube mobile channel pages (this will be added soon).”

The content creator world is currently in a frenzy over the news, as seen by the hundreds of furious tweets from punters including one James Charles.
“I’m really sorry to the creators who are being unverified on YouTube today,” the controversial internet celebrity tweeted.
“This decision is really pointless and it’s yet another change not a single person asked for.”
I’m really sorry to the creators who are being unverified on @YouTube today. This decision is really pointless and it’s yet another change not a single person asked for 😐 PLEASE know that you are still valid as a creator and I hope that a stupid checkmark doesn’t discourage you!
