What’s that? You’ve got some questions and reservations about the whole thing? Well, let’s just let their handy “About Us” section do all that fancy big city answerin’ for you: “We strive to make sure that all of our content panders to and misleads our readers just enough to make it go viral. You see, we don’t think anything on the internet should ever have to settle for mere tens of thousands of pageviews. We believe that each and every article—whether about pop culture, politics, internet trends, or social justice—should be clicked on and shared by hundreds of millions of internet users before they can even comprehend what they just read.
ClickHole has one and only one core belief: All web content deserves to go viral.“
Fair enough, probably. Truth is though that the site is pure Onion-style satire told through the majesty of complete nonsense. Think of it as the horrifying real world manifestation of this Cracked article. I mean for pete’s sake, the lead article is literally a video of a dancing Barney-like dinosaur with the phrase “Racism is Bad” superimposed over the top of it. COME ON.
‘Course we understand the certain paradoxical nature of taking the piss out of clickbait articles by, essentially, producing articles that are themselves clickbait.
And we understand that we’ve only compounded that by covering the story with a headline that is one-hundred percent pure clickbait too.
But, y’know. The Internet shall eat itself.
Good luck enjoying any food today now, suckers.
