The Pixies, Pet Shop Boys And Giorgio Moroder Headline Vivid Sydney 2014

The head-spinning selection of creative practitioners participating in Sydney’s annual celebration of music, art, ideas and itself, Vivid Sydney, has been announced at a ceremony held in Sydney today.

The music lineup headlined last year by Kraftwerk will this year welcome seminal genre pioneers including the Pet Shop Boys – headlining a three day Steve Pavlovic curated event called Modulations at Carriageworks – US alt rock flag-bearers Pixies, synth virtuoso Giorgio Moroder and a special live collaboration between the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Sydney duo, The Presets, who first met at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

On the more cerebral tip, Vivid Ideas’ keynote speaker lineup includes renowned American artist, designer, urban planner and TED Senior Fellow, Candy Chang, US author, media strategist and Director of Marketing for American Apparel, Ryan Holiday, Upworthy editorial director Sara Critchfield with ten reasons you won’t believe Upworthy is the fastest growing media company of all time, 4D printing pioneer Skylar Tibbits and Joshy D of American streetwear brand, REBEL8.

Per tradition, the Opera House sails will be draped in a resplendent Technicolour Dream Coat provided this year by London based creative agency 59 Productions whose large scale installation work you might know from the London Olympic Games’ Opening Ceremony. In addition, harbour dwelling ferries and vessels will be adorned with custom LED lights which automatically change colour according to their location.
