Oh yes, imagine, Ron Burgundy the character, transported straight outta the ’70s, interviewing actual people, probably in a room that smells of rich mahogany.

The news dropped via a conversation with real-life CNN news anchor Don Lemon – and Burgundy’s “good friend” – from the Twitter account @BurgundyPodcast.

The interaction is set up with Burgundy saying he had his White House press credentials pulled because he ate too many (either four or 12) hot dogs in the break room. Something we can believe. See:

Anyway, after his tale of woe, Twitter Burgundy asks Lemon for a favour, the the favour being to plug his “best friend“‘s new podcast.  He explains that he’s going the podcast route because “the media landscape is changing so fast and I DO NOT CARE FOR IT“. And podcasts? They’re “hotter than Jane Fonda’s workout tape“.

Lemon’s response is *kisses fingers*: “Please do not start a podcast and stop contacting me.

Twitter Burgundy cuts his losses by starting a brutal Twitter feud: “our friendship is over. YOU GO STRAIGHT TO HELL.

Here’s how iHeartRadio Podcast Network president Conal Byrne described the exciting new series:

To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible. Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than 100 times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.

Will we get a Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana cameo? Is Steve Carrell/Brick Tamland too serious an actor now? What’s David Koechner/Champ Kind been up to lately? Who can say?

The Ron Burgundy Podcast – already commissioned for two seasons of six episodes each – is due to launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network early next year.
