Watch Wes Anderson’s Wes Anderson Inspired Car Ads

This week in ads you should watch if you enjoy cinema: Wes Anderson provides a fitting compliment to this year’s retroactive Oscars field by mimicking the child-like visual style which made him famous and susceptible to ad pitches by Korean automotive companies. Enlisted for a pair of Hyundai spots which aired during last night’s Oscars telecast in America, Anderson, who we should note is no stranger to eating himself for Benjamins, shoots for a vibe so distinct and so steeped in its own Wes Anderson-ness that we’ll only provide you with a half hearted list of its most prominent Anderson trademarks. We call them Wes-isms.

– Fascination with non traditional transport
– Flashes of animation
– Chaotic blocking
– Useless man child
– Camera moving laterally between sets
– Awesome mother figure
– Visual non-sequiturs
– Mustard
– Symmetry
– The idea that most Dads are terrible at being Dads
– Whimsy
– Synchronised dressing
