Watch Tom Ballard Make A Logic Based Argument For Same-Sex Marriage Reform

Unlike, say, I don’t know, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, The United Kingdom and Uruguay, Australia – one of the gayest nations on the planet – refuses to enact same sex marriage reform on the grounds that it corrupts the fundamental principles of marriage. But what if we told you that the institution of marriage has been evolving for eons? Scrap that. We’ll let Tom Ballard tell you.

“This notion that marriage has been this unchanging institution for thousands of years is absolute bullshit,” Ballard tells us. “Marriage used to be a property contract. Men used to own women. Black men couldn’t marry white women. Divorce wasn’t a thing for a while. Marriage has changed. It’s changed in other parts of the world and the world hasn’t ended. It’s fine. It’s time. It’s boring.”

“I am an equal Australian citizen just like my heterosexual brother and I think I should have the same rights,” he continues. “To me it’s much more an equality issue then the practical outcome of actually getting married.”
