Watch The Worst Gold Coast Promo Video Of All Time

The Gold Coast. Home to Schoolies Week, Meter Maids, and the music video for rap song “Gold Coast’n” that gives a sadly accurate portrayal of the worst of what the Gold Coast has to offer: Surfer’s Paradise.

The intended message of the song is clearly pro-Surfer’s Paradise, with the almost suspiciously tourism-promoting chorus of: “There’s no place I’d rather be than in Surfer’s baby!” However, the rest of the song’s narrative architecture acts more like a human repellent. Here’s an example of rapper Deane Wyldman‘s lyrics: “Now my city ain’t large but it comes correct / five chicks to one, ain’t no time for respect”, where the MC notes the disparate ratio between women and dudes on the Gold Coast clubbing scene – a pretty accurate piece of Gold Coast social commentary.

Another lyric mentions “cocktails and dreams” – a reference to the name of the venue which Brian Flanagan and Doug Coughlin dream of opening in the movie Cocktail. Coincidentally, Doug was played by Australian actor Bryan Brown – an ‘urban’ version of whom seems to appear in this very clip:

Anyway, you can watch the video below and do not miss the popping and locking that comes in around the 2-and-a-half minute mark.
