Watch: Snow White and The Huntsman Trailer

His brother might have made the cut as a regulation hottie as one of Who Weekly’s Sexiest for 2011, but Chris Hemsworth is cutting up a lot more than puerile, cross-promotional, babe-lists in the new trailer for Rupert SandersSnow White and the Huntsman. Axe skills trump abs skills – ladies am I right?

Also making the cut for this filmic update of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, but not cutting an entirely new silhouette for herself in terms of her facial expression and general demeanour, is Kristen Stewart, who suits up Joan-of-Arc style as the film’s eponymous protagonist. Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Steven Graham and Nick Frost feature as those loveable/reprehensible dwarves.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s sullen demeanour beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

The visuals are certainly one of the film’s biggest draw cards so far, what with Theron bathing in milk and all the battle scenes and whatnot, the trailer reads something like Lord of the Rings meets Hitchcock’s The Birds. Only on account of there being so many of them.

Snow White and The Huntsman opens June 2012.
