In case you were thinking about fucking with Charlize Theron at any point, here’s a word of advice – don’t.
The recent Sony Pictures hack brought to light a pay disparity between Hollywood’s male and female stars, revealing, for example, that Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were paid less than Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale for American Hustle.
Theron decided not to take this lying down. Page Six report that she is soon to star alongside sexiest man alive Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman, but when she discovered he was being paid more for his services, she demanded to be paid the same.
As a result, she was able to negotiate a deal worth “more than $10 million”, putting her on the same money as Hemsworth.
“She has a great track record, so she got the same deal,” a source told Page Six. Another added: “One knock-on effect from the Sony hacking scandal is that there will be more sensitivity about equal pay for actresses and hiring practices at movie studios.”
The film is a prequel to Snow White And The Huntsman, which made close to $400m internationally. It’s directed by Frank Darabont, and will be released April 2016.
