There was a time when U.S. President Donald Trump cared strongly enough about former Twilight couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson that he felt moved to send out a shady Tweet about their break-up.
That time was 4.47am on October 18, 2012.
“Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart,” wrote the current leader of the free world, channelling his furious inner Twi-hard. “She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again — just watch. He can do much better!”
At the time, Stewart was dealing with the tabloid fallout from her affair with Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, while Trump was still host of The Apprentice.
Stewart is currently at the Sundance Film Festival, and when the topic of Trump’s shady Tweet came up during an interview with Variety, she reflected on how bizarre the situation now seems.
She told the publication:
“He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is fucking crazy … I can’t even understand it. I literally cannot even understand it. It’s such a far-out concept that I don’t want to believe that actually is happening. It’s insane.”
The actress, who doesn’t use Twitter, recalls being surprised that someone like Trump would take such a specific interest in her love life in the first place.
“At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference. It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right!’ He’s probably, like, going to tweet about this.”
