WATCH: Putin Finesses A Clueless Trump In The Brutal New ‘SNL’ Opener

After President-Elect Donald Trump blurted out a Tweet this morning featuring the definitely-not-real word “unpresidented”, Alec Baldwin heralded today’s episode of Saturday Night Live with this lil’ piece of snark:

While it’s still a bit naff to poke fun at a typo from the man who will soon be in charge of the United States’ nuclear arsenal, Baldwin was right. He didn’t apologise for his now-infamous Trump impersonation.

In fact, SNL‘s latest cold open not only felt like a direct message to Trump – it also demonstrated the show has finally found new ways to draw humour from his rank incompetence.
Instead of relying solely on his vanity and cluelessness, the show eked some pointed humour from Beck Bennett’s Vladimir Putin and a big ol’ cameo appearance from John Goodman as Trump’s Secretary of State pick Rex Tillerson.

The show churned through the interrelated facts that the CIA reckons Russia interfered in the US election, and that oil magnate Tillerson is already tight with the Russian government. “Haha” funny? Nah, but good in a “well, fuck” kind of way.

Throw in mentions of his recent comments about Vanity Fair and his catch-up with Kanye, and this one seems destined to draw the ire of Trump himself.
Maybe, just maybe, it won’t turn out to be more weak ideological prodding this time, and Trump will actually wise up to the fact he could’ve been played by Russia. Probably not, though.
