Think about how many viral sensations Ellen DeGeneres has ever welcomed to her show. Contemplate the multitude of dancing toddlers, mask-wearing mums, and other attention-stealing humans who’ve captivated us, if only for 15 seconds at a time.
Now, think about how good she must be at feigning interest in their escapades, and how her enthusiasm would naturally wane from when an idea is pitched to when it finally comes to fruition.
With that in mind, you have to recognise exactly how full-on young surfer Sabre Norris must be to reduce Ellen to stunned silence.
Norris, the 11-year-old whose post-comp interview on TODAY broke Karl Stefanovic, did damn near the same to the veteran talk-show host. The grommet’s insatiable sweet-tooth made another appearance, as she rattled off her US sweet wish-list to a flummoxed DeGeneres:
It’s worth noting at this point that the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood features its own surf simulator, so young m8 can probably work off some of that doughnut energy in the pool. Definitely forget trying to make her swim it off, though.
Bless you Sabre, you little Steve Irwin-esque larrikin.
