The general public’s mutual mistrust with celebrities can essentially be boiled down to two acronyms: TMZ and PR. So strong is the public’s distrust of celebrities, that people legitimately believe someone would routinely “fake” tripping up and/or down at landmark moments in their career, with the end-game of becoming more likeable.
Jennifer Lawrence, the alleged flimflammer, has previously addressed this conspiracy theory in Marie Claire, saying: “I was laughing, but on the inside I was like, ‘You’re fucked. They’re totally going to think this is an act… But trust me, if I was going to plan it, I would have done it at the Golden Globes or the SAGs. I would have never done it at two Oscars in a row. I watch Homeland—I’m craftier than that!”
