WATCH: George W Bush Enjoyed Kimmel’s Trump Roast At The Oscars

George W Bush made a rare TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, and the former president revealed that he heartily approved of Kimmel’s Donald Trump roast during the recent Academy Awards
While giving his opening monologue as host of the show, Kimmel had a go at the current President, calling him a racist, saying he’d made the rest of the world “hate” America, and describing the country as nation divided.
Bush didn’t say much on the subject, but noted said that he’d seen Kimmel’s opening and thought it was “damn good”, adding that the host is a “funny guy.”
The relevant chat takes place at around 3:15 in the below video:
Bush has been making headlines recently for his subtle digs at Trump, and recent comments me made about press freedom were perceived by many as an attack on the current President.
“I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy,” he told Matt Lauer during an appearance on NBC‘s Today show, adding that “we need the media to hold people like me to account.
“Power can be very addictive, and it can be corrosive,” he added, “and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power, whether it be here or elsewhere.”
He later said that he was not taking a crack at Trump, and was merely speaking about the importance of a free and independent press – that said, he certainly doesn’t mind it when others roast the current president.
Bush appeared to take several other veiled potshots at Trump during his appearance on Kimmel, at one point noting that he didn’t watch a lot of TV while in the Oval Office, as he had more important things to do.
This was a likely dig at Trump, who is famously obsessed with cable news, and has been known to repeat Fox News talking points on Twitter and in his speeches.
Bush also mentioned how much he enjoyed attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, saying that he loves humour and “the best humour is when you make fun of yourself.”
Last weekend, Trump made headlines when he wussed out of attending this year’s event because he was afraid people would take the piss out of him, so make of Bush’s comments whatever you want.
