WATCH: Ellen Surprises Terminally Ill Comedian With His Own HBO Special

You might have seen this story slowly developing over the past couple of weeks, but ICYMI here’s a quick refresher.

Quincy Jones shares a name with a famous music producer. He also happens to be a stand-up comedian and, by all accounts, is just an all-around sweetheart.
On July 3, 2015, Quincy was diagnosed with stage-four Mesothelioma – a rare form of cancer that develops in the protective lining of the body’s vital organs. Doctors at the time gave Quincy a grim prognosis: one year.
Before he leaves this mortal coil, Quincy has only had one ultimate wish: To have his very own stand-up special.
Friend and fellow stand-up Nicole Blaine, along with her husband Mickey, began a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds necessary to shoot and produce Quincy’s dream. The story caught on, and the response from the internet has been overwhelming: $50k raised, a venue in the 600-capacity Teragram Ballroom near downtown Los Angeles, and a set date for the shoot of April 4th.
However, distributing the special, and Quincy’s accompanying (and very inspiring) story was proving something of a hurdle.
That is until Ellen DeGeneres got involved.
The ever-generous talk show host caught wind of the story, and brought Quincy onto the show about a week ago in a touching interview that ended with Ellen audibly wondering why Netflix or HBO weren’t falling over themselves to pick the special up.
Turns out that wasn’t just idle wondering, either.
Ellen brought Quincy back onto her show to deliver the final surprise for his dream show – HBO has agreed to pick up the special, and will air it in the near future.

Nice things happening to a nice man who was dealt a horrible hand.
I’m not crying. You’re crying. Shut up.
Oh man.
