Jon Stewart Is Doin’ New Stand-Up Specials For HBO ‘Cos It’s Been Too Long

Pre-eminent comedian and critic Jon Stewart bowed out of his role just before one of the largest clusterfucks in modern American politics, and while his proteges have largely filled the gap left by his The Daily Show departure, it’s still weird knowing he’s just out there, saving abused farm animals.

As noble as that goal may be, his return to the broader public conscience has just been announced: old mate will be taking to HBO for not one, but two stand-up specials.

The Hollywood Reporter says Stewart’s first stand-up specials for the network since his first one back in 1996 constitute part of his four-year deal with the massive cable network.
“I can finally use up the last of the Saddam Hussein jokes left over from my first special,” Stewart said in a statement.
It’s not entirely clear yet when or where the specials will be filmed.
What is clear is that his previously-announced animated show with the network has been shelved; the statement said the long production times didn’t mesh with the “quick turnaround and topical nature of the material.”
Oh well. NEW JON STEWART IS COMING.
