I won’t lie I’m excited about this film: any movie that involves singing and dancing and feather boas and Cher are right up my alley (which suggests I’m a gay male stereotype trapped in a woman’s body). The cryptically titled Burlesque stars Christina Aguilera in her big screen debut, as well as an impressive supporting cast including Alan Cumming, Peter Gallagher, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Bell, Cam Gigandet (AKA Volchek from The OC) and, of course, Cher.
The story follows Ali (Xtina), a small-town girl from Iowa, who ventures to Los Angeles in the hopes of becoming a star and ends up finding work as a waitress at a Lounge. Here she meets newfound friends amongst the crew, finds love and manages to fulfill her dreams when her big voice makes her become the main attraction of the revue.
You’ve got to hand it to these movie types: their imaginations know no bounds.
