Watch A Teaser For Guillermo del Toro’s Vampire Series ‘The Strain’

A “viral” video for FX’s impending “viral” outbreak series The Strain by Mexican auteur Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) aired during the table clearing mid-season finale of The Walking Dead on AMC this week, subtly reminding us that there are few supernatural entities out there less sexy than zombies/sexier than vampires and that it should really prove be no contest as to who you would rather spend your remaining Sunday/Monday nights with. Hint: the ones who wear Dior.

The series is based on the bestselling trilogy of novels written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan, who have both signed on to executive produce the series along with Carlton Cuse from Lost. FX have made an initial 13 episode order for the first season which is slated to screen in July 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis: The Strain is a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
