Trailer: Mia Wasikowska in Gus Van Sant’s “Restless”

After highly praised turns in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right , Mia Wasikowska, Australia’s next Nicole Kidman/Cate Blanchett/Naomi Watts continues her dream year with the trailer for Restless, a forthcoming ghost drama by Gus Van Sant (Milk, Elephant, Last Days). Wasikowska stars as a terminally ill 16 year old who falls for a boy who sees dead people and according to those who’ve read the script, it exists on the more commercial end of the Gus Van Sant spectrum. As we’ve seen with Finding Forrester and Good Will Hunting though, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Official synopsis: “From Imagine Entertainment comes a powerful and emotional coming of age story, a remarkable film told with honesty and originality that will leave audiences moved. In the film, two outsiders, both shaped by the circumstances that have brought them together, forge a deep and lasting love. Directed by Gus Van Sant, one of the most astute observers of people living life on the edge, comes a take on friendship and young love as engaging and true as it is provocative and stirring.”
