AnOther Anoints Mia Wasikowska Australia’s Finest New Actress

To celebrate their existing in two separate decades (they launched in 2001), culture bi-annual AnOther Magazine have cultivated four unique covers that salute the future of cinema via four rising actresses from four different continents.

The selected talent includes Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence, Andrea Riseborough, Léa Seydoux and charming Canberra native Mia Wasikowska who covered AnOther’s sister publication Dazed early last year. The Dazed Group shows more love as AnOther anoints Wasikowska “Australia’s finest new actress”. We agree wholeheartedly and not just for her restrained but hypnotic turns in The Kids Are All Right and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. I mean, have you visited her IMDB profile lately?

Wasikowska’s upcoming roles include the titular protagonist of Cary Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre adaptation, a daughter dealing with grief in Chan-wook Park’s Stoker, Shia LaBeouf’s love interest in John Hillcoat/Nick Cave’s The Wettest Country in the World, a terminally ill dreamer in Gus Van Sant’s Restless, the niece of Anthony LaPaglia in Robert Connolly’s A View from the Bridge and the lead in Rodrigo Garcia’s Irish period drama Albert Nobbs.

Based purely on the endorsements of her collaborators (Chan-wook Park, John Hillcoat and Gus Van Sant are you fucking kidding me?) Wasikowska is probably the finest new actress period.

The chosen four will be exclusively interviewed over the next two weeks, with videos appearing on the mag’s blog.
