Trailer: Kristen Wiig And Jon Hamm Together Again

The whole ‘fuck buddies’ conceit was efficiently sodomised by Hollywood in 2011 with two romantic comedies (Friends With Benefits, No Strings Attached) that were terrible enough to put us off that premise indefinitely… Then we saw this trailer for writer-actor-director Jennifer Westfeldt‘s indie take on the whole ‘mates on dates’ idea and are now reconsidering our position. Friends With Kids is about a the last two singles in the close-knit group of adult friends who observe the effect that kids have had on their friends’ relationships and wonder if there’s a better way. They decide to have a kid together – and date other people. What could possibly go wrong with that sensible idea….?!?!?

You can almost fill in the script blanks based on the synopsis alone, but with a cast that includes Westfeldt, her real life partner Jon Hamm, the wonderful Adam Scott, and half the cast of Bridesmaids (Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Chris O’Dowd) this looks truly promising. And Westfeldt’s debut screenplay Kissing Jessica Stein was a lovely, funny and smart small film, so hopefully this one runs in the same vein.

Friends With Kids comes out in March.
