Joining a growing list of suckers which includes US college football star with fake dead girlfriend who he never actually “met” but was definitely in love with, Manti Te’o, Today Tonight was the victim of what the yoots today are calling catfishing. The Seven network current affairs program known for nefarious set ups of everything from carbonated beverages, opportunistic tradesman and evil supermarket pricing committees was the victim of its own nefarious setup when a member of Australian troll collective Facebeef infiltrated a story on cyber bullying aimed at the group’s leader Tristan Barker.
At one point the expose featured an interview with an alleged victim named Jasmine Frost who claimed to have “received lots of pictures of penises” from Barker and was altogether very convincing and sympathetic in her portrayal of someone who was emotionally distraught after receiving lots of unsolicited peen pictures.
Frost, real name unknown, appeared on the program after she sent producers an email with the heading ‘Tristan Barker cyberbullied me’ and fielded a three minute phone call, but in a twist calling into question everything we knew about the integrity of Today Tonight’s background check protocol, it was revealed that Frost had fabricated the whole story and was in fact affiliated with the group they were targeting. Frost had previously appeared in an A Current Affair story on cyber bullying that never made it to air but this time they got their man.
